The story

A sacred deer is waiting on the shore when Scotty arrives in Japan, and it wants him to follow. Past the torii gates and up through the cherry blossom there is a temple, an old monk with something he has not told anyone, and a forest that men have come to cut down. Scotty is one small wolf standing in front of six men with axes. He does not move. What comes out of the trees to stand with him has been there for a thousand years. The Kitsune, the Tengu, the Kodama and the great river dragon all come from real Japanese folklore.
